Uber is about to study selfdriving technology

Uber announced on Thursday that Fort former Engineering Director Sherif Marakby will join Uber as vice president of its global vehicle project. Marakby will head to Pittsburgh from Detriot as Uber is exploring the advanced technology there.

Marakby will be responsible for the strategy and integrated work, likely including the launch of self-driving vehicles. However,

Uber has not confirmed whether it is producing self-driving vehicles at present. According to the confirmed souce, Uber will purchase self-driving vehicles from German manufacturer.

His supervisor is Brian McClendon who once worked as vice president of Google Maps. McClendon joined Uber recently and is responsible for self-driving vehicel project. He claimed that self-driving technology is a challenge but has potentiality to change people's life. Marakby is an expert in this field.

Marakby stated that over one million people died of car accidents each year. The self-driving technology could prevent the accidents occur and enhance the quality of urban living. He felt glad to join Uber Pittsburgh team.

Uber has been attracting engineers and self-driving vehicle experts to join Pittsburgh center in the past few months.Former Google Maps manager Manik Gupta joined Uber maps last year.

Uber teamped up with Arizona university to launch self-driving technology. Its interesting that Google just announced it will test its self-driving cars in Phoenix.
